How To Fix Msiexec.exe Related Problems

Method 1: Re-register you Windows Installer

  • Make sure the location of msiexec.exe on your hard drive:
    1. Click Start, then click Search
    2. Click “All files and all folders”
    3. Type msiexec.exe in the “files name”
    4. Remember the location of the msiexec.exe
    5. Select Close
  • Make sure the location of msiexec.exe in your registry
    1. Click Start, type regedit in the open box, click OK
    2. Find the following registry:"
    3. Make sure the path of msiexec.exe is like what is presented in the fist tip
    4. Click Exit
  • Reboot your computer in the safe mode
    1. Press F8 after you see the following message:
      Please select the operating syste,
    2. Select Safe Mode
    3. Log on into your system
    4. Click Start, Run, and type “msiexec/regserver”, click OK
  • Reboot your computer

Method 2: Reinstall Windows Installer

  1. Click Start, Run
  2. Type “cmd” in the open box, click OK
  3. Type in the following command and press Enter
    attrib -r -s -h drive:\%Windir%\system32\dllcache
  4. in the following command and press Enter
  5. ren msi.dll msi.old ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old
  6. Tpye Exit, press Enter
  7. Reboot your computer
  8. Update the Windows Installer to the latest version
  9. Reboot your computer
