How To Insert a footnote or an endnote

Microsoft Word automatically numbers footnotes and endnotes for you. You can use a single numbering scheme throughout a document, or you can use different numbering schemes within each section in a document.
Commands for inserting and editing footnotes and endnotes can be found on the References tab in the Footnotes group.

Callout 1 Insert Footnote
Callout 2 Insert Endnote
Callout 3 Footnote & Endnote Dialog Box Launcher

When you add, delete, or move notes that are automatically numbered, Word renumbers the footnote and endnote reference marks.
Note   If the footnotes in your document are numbered incorrectly, your document may contain tracked changes. Accept the tracked changes so that Word will correctly number the footnotes and endnotes.
  1. In Print Layout view, click where you want to insert the note reference mark.
  2. On the References tab, in the Footnotes group, click Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Word inserts the note reference mark and places the insertion point in the text area of the new footnote or endnote.
Keyboard shortcut  To insert a footnote, press CTRL+ALT+F. To insert an endnote, press CTRL+ALT+D.
By default, Word places footnotes at the end of each page and endnotes at the end of the document.
  1. Type the note text.
  2. Double-click the footnote or endnote reference mark to return to the reference mark in the document.
  3. To change the location or format of footnotes or endnotes, click the Footnote & Endnote Dialog Box Launcher, and do one of the following:
    • To convert footnotes to endnotes or endnotes to footnotes, under Location choose either Footnotes or Endnotes and then click Convert. In the Convert Notes dialog box, click OK.
    • To change the numbering format, click the desired formatting in the Number format box and click Apply.
    • To use a custom mark instead of a traditional number format, click Symbol next to Custom mark, and then choose a mark from the available symbols. This will not change the existing note reference marks. It will only add new ones.

How To Fix office 2010 Error 0x80072EE2

Step 1 - Confirm Your Internet Connection Is Working

If you are reading this on the affected computer, I am sure your Internet is working okay; but if you’re not on the computer with the error, you should open up your Internet browser and try and access Google with it. This will allow you to see if your Internet connection is working or not. As Windows updates itself through the Internet, it’s important your computer is able to connect to the Windows update server.

Step 2 - Disable Your Firewall (Termporarily)

Since Windows update uses the Internet, many firewall applications will actively block any connections it tries to make. This is a big problem and is often the biggest cause of the 0x80072EE2 error. Fortunately, you can temporarily turn off your firewall to fix this problem. You should also seek to unblock the Windows Update engine for future updates.

Step 3 - Add The Windows Update Server To Your Web’s Trusted List

To add the Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site to the Trusted Sites list, follow these steps:
          1. Start Windows Internet Explorer.
          2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.Note If you are using Internet Explorer 7, and the menu is not available, press the ALT key on your keyboard to access the Internet Explorer Menu.
          3. Click the Security tab, and then click Trusted Sites.
          4. Click Sites, and then click to clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
          5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the following addresses, and then click Add after you type each address:
            • http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
          6. Click OK two times.
          7. Try to install the updates again.
If this method resolved your issue and you were able to install updates successfully, you should re-enable your third-party firewall if it is still disabled. However, if you’re still getting errors then you should use Step 4:

Step 4 - Use A “registry cleaner” To Fix Any Problems Inside Windows

One of the big causes of the 0x80072EE2 error is that certain settings and files which Windows needs to read in order to become updated, are corrupted. The settings and files that are typically used for this process are saved in the “registry” database of your computer, which is a central storage center for all the files and settings for your PC. The registry keeps a lot of information for Windows, such as your desktop wallpaper and your latest emails. Unfortunately, the registry is also prone to becoming corrupted, and that’s what can stop the Windows Update service from working. To fix this problem, you should download a reliable registry cleaner and use it to fix all the problems inside your PC. You can download our preferred registry cleaner below:

How to Resolve Activation Error “0xC004F074” in Windows 7

When you try to activate your client machines having the operating system of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 key management system you might sometimes get the error message of 0xC004F074 having the description that the key management system is unavailable. In some of the client machines this problem has been observed and the people have to face some difficulties. There are some reasons for this issue.

          Causes
This kind of problem happens due to the mismatch of the support version which occurs between the client key management system and the host machine of the key management system. The host KMS is used actually as a Windows server 2008 host which is not able to activate the machines that have the Windows 7 or the Server 2008 R2. In the most common cases it has been seen that when the host KMS is running on the operating systems of Windows server 2003 or on windows server 2008 then this error message is usually seen and the client of the KMS is the Windows 7 or the Windows server 2008 R2. You would need to have an update in order to bring the host KMS running on the Windows server 2003 operating system. One update is also required for the host KMS to run on the Windows server 2008 operating system so that it should be able to activate the client KMS which are present on the Windows 7 or the Windows server 2008 R2 machines.

          Resolution to this error message

When you are experiencing this type of error message then you can follow certain steps or methods to get rid of this. With the help of these methods you would be able to avoid this error message of the key management system being unavailable.

          For windows server 2003

When your system is having the operating system of Windows server 2003 as the host of your Key management system then you would need to have the update. The update can be easily obtained from the support web site of Microsoft and you can easily install the KMS i.e. the Key management system version number 1.2 for the Windows server 2003 service pack 1 and also for the later versions of the operating system of Windows server 2003.

          For Windows server 2008

When you need to have the update for the Windows server 2008 operating system you can contact the support from Microsoft and can easily find the solution to this problem from there. You would be able to find it in the Microsoft knowledge base. The update is also available for the Windows vista and also for the Windows server 2008 in order to extend the activation of the KMS support for the Windows 7 as well as for the Windows server 20098 R2.

This problem is seen in different versions of the Windows 7 operating system. For example in Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Enterprise N, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Professional N, Windows 7 Ultimate and also in Windows 7 Ultimate N.

How to Fix Error 1402 When Trying to Install Microsoft Office

The 1402 error is quite a common problem for people trying to install Microsoft Office and other programs onto their computer. This error normally shows up part way through an installation and is characterized by stopping the installation from occurring. To fix this problem, you need to do a few small things which will fix the causes of the issue.
The cause of the 1402 error is actually from your PC being unable to read the registry keys that it needs to change in order to install the program you want. The error that normally appears will say something such as "Error 1402. Cannot open registry key: key_name". They key name will normally be a long textual path to one of the obscure registry keys on your computer. To fix this problem, you need to help your computer access the key it needs.
The first thing you should do to fix this error is - if you're using Windows 98 or 2000 - to use the 'registry checker' facility. This is done by loading up the "Run Console" with CTRL + R and then typing "registry checker". If the registry is intact then this will not be a problem. On later versions of Windows, you should use a 'registry cleaner' program to perform this task.
If you have XP, Vista or Windows 7, you should first download a registry cleaner from the Internet and let that scan your system. It will look for any registry errors on your PC and then fix them, which should fix the 1402 error in the process. To use one of these, you need to download a registry scanner program and then let it scan your PC. It will identify all the damaged parts of Windows and should fix them. And if one of these registry errors is causing the 1402 error then a quick restart after the registry scan should enable you to install Office or the program you wanted.
If that method did not work, you should try using a different user account, or creating a new user account, to install the program onto. It's often the case that user accounts will become corrupted for whatever reason, blocking access to the registry. This causes the 1402 error because it means that the program cannot access the files and settings it needs to create when it's being installed. You should try creating a new administrator account and then installing the program on that.

How to Fix Error 1406 ofiice 2010

Sometimes when you try to install software, you might get an error known as "Error 1406" saying the system was not able to write into the registry. This occurs when the installer is not able to update the registry file because of write protection. When the user tries to install software without administrative privileges, this error is triggered. This can be solved by obtaining administrative privileges.

          Steps Given Below
          1. Step 1
Click "Start" and then "Control Panel" and go to "User Accounts." See if you have administrative privileges. If you do not, restart the system and log-in as administrator.
          2. Step 2
Check whether you have the latest version of Windows installer on your system. To find the version of Windows installer go to the "System32" folder in the Windows directory and find the file "MSI.DLL". Right-click on it and go to "Properties" and check the version. If the version is older than 3, you need to update the installer.
          3. Step 3
Download the latest version of Windows installer from microsoft.com and install using default options. A link to the download is in the Resources section of this article. Restart your system and log in as administrator.
          4. Step 4
Go back to the "System32" folder and check whether the "MSI.DLL" file is updated to the latest version.
          5. Step 5
Install the desired software with administrative rights. If Error 1406 still occurs, the problem is due to a bug in the software. Download a different version of the software and proceed with the installation.

How the OMPM File Scanner works

The OMPM File Scanner collects information about the computer and recursively scans the designated path for Office files. The OMPM File Scanner then records the results in an XML log file to the designated destination path.
The OMPM File Scanner performs the following tasks in a single scan:
                • Scans the computer for Office files in the folders that you specify in the FoldersToScan setting in the Offscan.ini configuration file.
                • Scans the computer for properties, such as operating system, memory, and language ID.
                • Scans for file property information, such as file name, path, size, format, created date, modified date, and file owner.
                • If the AccessScan setting is set to 1 in Offscan.ini, scans Access files and displays results on the Access Compatibility tab of the reporting tool.
                • If this is a deep scan, scans for compatibility issues moving from binary file formats to OpenXML file formats.
                • If macro scan is configured, OMPM 2010 scans any macros it encounters for migration concerns that are due to changes in the object model and logs the total count of potential issues.
                • Writes an XML log file to the destination path, displaying results for each file scan.
                • If the CABLogs setting is set to 1 in Offscan.ini, adds the XML log files to a series of .cab files for later import to a SQL Server computer for reporting analysis.
                • Logs failures to the XML log files.
                NOTE:-

                • You can use the /d parameter to prevent OMPM from changing the Last Accessed Date on files that the scanner has Write permission to. If you do not use this parameter, or if the scanner does not have Write access to scanned files, you might experience unexpected results when you use the SkipOldAccessedFiles and OldAccessDate settings in the offscan.ini file. Specifically, those settings are obeyed for the first scan and old files are skipped, but because Last Access Date property settings are updated for skipped files, the previously skipped files are scanned during subsequent scans
                • The OMPM File Scanner does not transmit data to Microsoft Corporation.

How To Convert Word, Excel, PowerPoint To PDF in Microsoft Office 2010

There are some new exciting changes in Office 2010 and they are appreciated by the community. The best way to convert a Word document , Excel spreadsheet, and PowerPoint presentation into PDF format was to use Bullzip Printer and other similar apps. Not anymore.
Yes, you heard it right. Office 2010 includes a build-in option to convert documents, spreadsheets, and powerpoints into PDF format.
Go to File > Share and select Create PDF/XPS Document under File Types.

Now hit the Create a PDF/XPS button on the right pane and you will see a new dialog window. Here you can select two PDF types – Standard or Minimum size.
Standard document has better quality and can be used to publish on the web and print, while the Minimum size is useful if you want to quickly publish the document online.

If you want to change any additional options, click the Options button and you can then apply the changes in the new dialog window.
It preserves the fonts, formatting, and images as shown in the screenshot below.

If you are wondering which tool we are using to view PDF document, it is Sumatra PDF Viewer. According to MS once it has been converted to PDF document, editing it will not be an easy task.
Before the arrival of this feature in Office 2010 there was another method apart from using Bullzip PDF and CuteWriter. The method involved uploading document to Google Docs and then downloading it as PDF document.

How to Fixing 1706 Error in MS Office 2010

A computer which displays a 1706 Error can be fixed via reinstalling or upgrading Windows Installer, reinstalling or upgrading software in use, applying registry cleaners and deleting temporary files.
A most frustrating thing to happen to a PC owner is to find errors on his computer. He moans and wonders how he can solve the problems. However, while such errors can be of varied kinds, a major one is the 1706 Computer Error, which’s the short form of Windows Installer Error 1706. This error is related to Microsoft software and it appears on the computer screen while loading a Windows application.
Some reasons responsible for the occurrence and display of the ‘1706 Error’ are:
                  • Inability of Windows Installer for locating the source folder for executing the installment.
                  • While attempting at executing the setup via CD-ROM, the Windows Installer asking for software installation files’ source location.
                  • Original installing of software for which the setup is tried executing via network administrative loading that’s no more found on the user’s computer.
                  • When canceling the dialog box, the installer asking for the way for accessing the user’s CD.
                  • Lastly, while loading software patches as well as other low rated upgrades onto the computer, the 1706 Error may occur.
An extremely irritating Windows error, the Windows Installer Error 1706 can’t be corrected via a plain computer restart. Thus the different methods to fix this offensive fault in order to continue experiencing a fast computer are:
                  1)    Reinstalling Windows Installer or upgrading it. A user can take down Windows Installer (latest version) directly from the download site of Microsoft. In case of using a previous version, if it is upgraded, the software may be instantly repaired. Moreover, following installation, a restart of the computer should be carried out that will finally solve the problem.
                  2)    Reinstalling the said software or upgrading it. One possibility is that the 1706 Computer Error may happen within just one software program. However, by uninstalling that software as well as reinstalling it or loading its newer version, the problem can be corrected and the fast computer restored.
                  3)    Using registry cleaner software. Any damaged configurations that slow down  your computer or prevent it from performing properly and thus result in the generation of the 1706 Error can be rectified with this software. In fact, running registry cleaner tools is extremely beneficial when users desire to have their fast computers work in the earlier smooth manner.
                  4)    Removing temporary files. Although this mayn’t necessarily set all problems right, still it is suggested that documents or files inside the temp directory be cleared. For, they not only cause certain troubles, but in case they keep piling up while don’t get removed automatically, there can be worse troubles. The files are created via different software that has merely temporary usage therefore; they should at best be deleted. By going to start menu and clicking “Disk Cleanup,” such temporary directories can be cleaned.
Thus, the above techniques can be beneficial for fixing a Windows Installer Error 1706 that may appear on the screen of a user’s computer, and thereby lead him to feel happy once again
